MEET CRAIG

“I went into law enforcement to be a public servant. Providing help to others in need and simply doing what I can to make my community or any place I touch better than I found it is a practice that fills me with pride. I believe in investing in both my professional and personal commitment to the community. I encourage and support others around me to follow my example of a “pay-it-forward” attitude and sustained community enrichment.”

I’m running for Sheriff of Loudoun to serve you.

“I am running for Sheriff to change the law enforcement culture in Loudoun to one that respects everyone and will work with all of our government agencies and elected officials for the betterment of our community. I am the candidate with the most experience in local law enforcement and community-oriented policing.
I’m the best choice for the job, and it is time for a New Sheriff in Loudoun.”

A Distinguished Career in Law Enforcement

I have worked as a uniformed patrol officer, a detective, a Field Training Instructor, a Citizen Academy Instructor, a Patrol Squad Supervisor, a Criminal Investigations Division Supervisor, a Patrol Commander, a Criminal Investigations Division Commander, Crisis Negotiations Team Commander, Community Services Division Commander, and Chief of Police. I have more than 28 years of combined law enforcement experience with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, the City of Fairfax, and the Town of Louisa Police Departments. I have handled numerous complex criminal and administrative cases requiring extensive knowledge and investigation skills.

My career in law enforcement has been a blessing. Along the way, I have had the opportunity to develop lasting friendships with many members of the communities I have served and my co-workers. In 2018, I was presented with a Distinguished Service Award which summarized my years of sustained dedication to the City of Fairfax. In my career, I have received numerous letters of commendation from citizens and the departments, including being awarded two Distinguished Action Awards. In addition, I received two Department Service Commendations and was recognized with three Life Saving Awards by the City of Fairfax Police Department.

I have a bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management from the University of Richmond and a Master's in Public Administration from George Mason University. In 2008, I was selected to attend George Washington University and The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Regional Executive Development Program, becoming a Certified Public Manager. In 2019, I was selected to attend the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police at Boston University and the 278th Session of the FBI National Academy.

In addition to my law enforcement-related experience and educational background, I have volunteered extensively in my community. I gain energy and excitement in both my professional and personal life whenever given an opportunity to expand my mind through research and collaboration with other law enforcement professionals, community leaders, and academic enthusiasts.

City of Fairfax

“Throughout your career, you were the recipient of numerous letters of commendation from citizens and the Department, including being awarded two Distinguished Action Awards. In addition, you received two Department Commendations and were recognized with three Life-Saving Awards.”

The Louisa Police Department is Virginia's first department to use the “Lights On!” program. “This is neighbors looking out for neighbors,” said Louisa Police Chief Craig Buckley, “and, as the police department, we should feel like they’re neighbors.”

Craig and his family have lived in Loudoun for twenty-three years. Their three children have all attended Loudoun County Public Schools. Craig’s wife, Stephanie, works for the Loudoun County Public Schools, and their oldest son is currently serving in the Navy.
